Swansea Uplands

Ammanford Baa Baa’s 29 Swansea Uplands 2nds 0

The Baa Baa’s played their second game of the season welcoming Swansea Uplands 2nds to the Rec. The home team started at a good tempo, but many asked – would it last?

From their sustained early pressure scrum half Iwan Mainwaring snipped over for the first try, with outside half Owen Higgins adding the 2, 7-0.  From a line out on the halfway Higgins took the opportunity to put in a long diagonal kick which the defending full back just slid into touch. Some sharp thinking saw Higgins take a quick throw in and wing Cerith Evans jogged over under the posts, Higgins added the extras, 14 – 0.

The third try came from a well constructed catch and drive from a line out, 19-0. With the half coming to an end the home side scored the best try of the half when a loose kick from the visitors was run back and after ome fine interpassing an inside ball from wing Evans put prop Dino Dallavalle over to extend the half time score to 24-0.

The second half started with the Baa Baa’s introducing their secret weapon as on to the field came 51 year old Alan ‘Post’. It did not take long for him to have an effect. With a tap penalty 5m out Dallavalle carried the ball to the line. All the supporters knew what was to come, but as none of the Uplands were born when Posty was in his prime they did not expect the big dummy and dive from one meter which is what happened. Is Posty Ammanfords’ oldest ever try scorer? 29-0.

The home side did add to the scoreboard but not for the lack of effort with the ball run from all angles and some of the best interpassing of the season was seen. Going the length of the field only a dummy followed by a fall over and dropped ball by wing Evans stopped a try and with the final move, ‘Muff’ burst through only to drop the ball over the line.

The game was enjoyed by all on and off the field and the Baa Baa’s are looking forward to their next social games. Any boys who fancy a run out are asked to contact skipper Jason Rosser.
