Kenfig Hill Home

Props earn the Draw

This was a game that both sides could have won but both sides made so many mistakes that a draw was the correct result.

The home team started slowly and were soon fourteen points behind thanks to two basic errors from the home team which presented the visitors, Kenfig Hill with a couple of tries.

Ammanfords front row started to dominate the scrum and earn several penalties. Ammanford gained a foothold in Kenfigs 22, however the attack was messed up with poor hands. Kenfig Hill made a bigger mess of clearing the ball and they dropped it 10m from the line. Centre Daf Pritchard hacked through to score. After getting back into the game another Ammanford error handed the advantage back to the visitors whilst trying to run out of defence a wayward long pass was intercepted to give Kenfig their third try. Ammanford finished the half on the attack turning down several simple penalty chances to opt for the lineout in the corner but failed to convert any into tries and the half finished with the visitors in a comfortable lead, 5-19.

Thanks to their solid front row of Dylan Phillips, Chris Morris and Rhodri Jones Ammanford continued to win scrum penalties, but continued with the kick to the corner option with the same pointless conclusion.

From an attacking scrum Ammanford moved the ball and a simple strait run by centre Kieran Griffiths, saw the defence fall at his feet to allow him to trot over under the posts. With the backs finally looking more fluid from another strong scum the ball was moved wide this time for outside centre Pritchard to go on an outside arc and round the defence to score near the posts. Steff Roberts conversion levelled the scores.

Ammanford finished strongly with phase after phase under the visitors posts. The situation was crying out for a drop goal attempt but the forwards kept the ball in and the chance was lost. The game ended in Ammanfords first drawn match several seasons.
