Llandeilo youth

Ammanford Youth 5 Llandeilo Youth 17

Ammanford came up against a good Llandeilo team in this much needed friendly following a long Christmas break, as the whole squad was given a run-out prior to their forthcoming cup fixture against Llandovery.
It was a frantic start to the game as both teams attempted to run the ball at every opportunity despite the cold and wet conditions. Llandeilo eventually opened the scoring mid-way through the half when their full-back entered the line at pace to break through the defence following some powerful driving play by their forwards.
Llandeilo kept up the pressure with Ammanford captain Sion Griffiths leading the defensive effort by the forwards, and centres Liam Gregory and Nick Morris in particular getting through a lot of work with their strong tackling and runs out of defence. However the visitors increased their lead as Ammanford failed to deal with an ' up and under' enabling their centre to race through and score for a 12-0 half time lead.
In the second half Ammanford used the wind advantage to apply some pressure as a long kick and chase by replacement scrum-half Keiran Williams forced Llandeilo to concede a 5 metre lineout. A catch and drive followed as second row Callan Davies secured the ball and Garin Criddle finished off the powerful drive.
Unfortunately Ammanford tired in the closing stages with the visiting scrum - half taking advantage by sniping through a ruck on the half - way and outpacing the defence in the last play of the game.
