Ammanford V's Aberavon Quins

A Lost Chance!

Ammanford let a clear chance for revenge slip from their grasp on Saturday when they dominated large portions of the game against visitors, high flying Aberavon Quins.

Ammanford welcomed back prop Dexter Davies after a long lay off with a shoulder reconstruction and also new recruit back rower, Michael Owen.

The game started fairly evenly but with their first positive attack Ammanford won a penalty which was slotted by outside half Lee Davies. 3-0. The home side dominated much of the first half but with their first visit into the home 22 late in the half Quins won a penalty to level the score. From the restart a knock on led to a scrum for the visitors and a quick piece of work up the blind saw the Quins go 65m to score and extend the lead, 3 – 8.

The visitors were on a roll and soon won a lineout on the home 22, some swift handling and poor midfield defence saw the Quins right wing go over for his second try, 3-13.

With time running out in the half a last push by Ammanford saw them put huge pressure on the visitors line which ended in a try for centre Andrew Owen after he joined in with the forwards. The half finished 8 – 13.

Ammanford started the half in a positive manner and a strong scrum saw No 8 Michael Owen dive over for a try on his debut. Davies added the extra points and put the home side into the lead, 15-13.

The home side dominated the half but the closest they got was hitting the post from a penalty. Quins only managed to get into the home 22 once in the whole half but managed to win a penalty which was put over to give Quins back the lead, 15 – 16, and that’s how the game ended. Ammanford for all their territory and ball failed to get the required points.

At the same time the Baa Baa’s were playing the Amman Quins and although the Amman won 10-17 the overall winner was rugby with over 70 boys playing rugby on the Rec and having a great time.
