Pontyberem youth

Ammanfords youngsters overcame another stern test to earn a battling bonus point win in this league fixture , with head coach Dylan Lloyd full of praise with the teams attitude and performance.
Pontyberem started strongly and they took an early lead when the visitors lost possession in mid-field and the home centre proceeded to sprint 50 metres for a converted try.
Pontyberem continued to apply the early pressure but the visitors countered with a number of turnovers and some strong carries out of defence by props Dan Morris and man of the match Garin Criddle in particular. Number 8 Dylan Lewis was also producing some storming runs and this lead to Ammanford reducing the deficit when second-row Rhys Jones continued the charge upfield before finding wing-forward Finn Quick in support to dive over from short range.
Mid-way through the half Ammanford managed to take the lead from a close range scrum when wing Jack Williams entered the line to create the overlap and score.
Pontyberem continued to keep the visitors penned in their own half but they were unable to breach the determined defence , with wing Sam Benger prominent on his Ammanford debut to protect their narrow half time lead.
The homesters again started the second half strongly and were quickly rewarded with a penalty which tied the scores 10 - 10.
However the game changed in dramatic fashion when Ammanfords centre Dan Slattery scored an outstanding individual try from his own line. Receiving the ball from a defending 5 metre scrum Slattery proceeded to slice through a number of defenders before rounding the full- back in his length of the field run to the line.
From the kick off the homesters quickly fell further behind when hooker Sean Griffiths collected and put replacement second-row Callan Davies clear to make an instant impact with a powerful 50metre run before finding No. 8 Dylan Lewis in support to breakaway and score , with SLattery converting.
This purple patch continued for the visitors when again from the kick-off a strong run from wing Jack Williams saw him break through a shell-shocked defence before spreading the ball wide for Rhys Tench to sprint clear from the half way and score under the posts , converted by Slattery.
Pontyberem unfortunately in their frustration lost their discipline at this point with an off the ball incident leading to them receiving three yellow and a red card for foul play. Ammanford although also receiving a yellow for retaliation took quick advantage of the situation with a quickly taken penalty by captain Sean Griffiths again finding Dylan Lewis in support to be rewarded with a 25 metre run-in , converted by Slattery.
Ammanford completed the scoring when Slattery put in a well judged cross-field kick to unmarked full-back Steffan Jones who gratefully gathered to sprint 40 metres to the line ,which Slattery again converted to round off an excellent individual and commited team performance.
