Carmarthen Druids V's BaaBaas

Carmarthen Druids 5 - Ammanford Baa Baas 15

It was a delight to travel to Carmarthen to watch two sides playing for the joy of the game. Ammanford Baa Baas travelled to Johnstown with a full squad and with players of all standard of rugby, old heads and complete beginners.

Both teams tried to play open rugby with winger Josh Walters enjoying himself, after one break from his own 22 carried on by prop James Thomas. When the ball was moved wide a try looked on the cards but a wayward pass a couple of meters from the line blew the try. This was soon followed by outside half, Owen Higgins, taking a quick tap penalty which opened the field up, he found number 8 Cerith Liliburn on his shoulder galloping towards the line a solid tackle under the posts saw the ball slip from his grasp.

The Baa Baas finally got the score they deserved when another move started from their own 22 saw the ball moved wide through several sets of hands before centre Sion Allen went over out wide, 0-5.

The second half started with the Druids in a positive mood. And it took an outstanding tackle in the corner by full back Steffan Howells to stop a stonewall try. The game was full of effort from both sides with some strong running and tackling to the fore.

With the Druids pressing hard a loose pass was hacked through by Josh Walters which took the game the length of the field. From a ruck 5 m out the ball was moved blind for skipper Carl Morris to score an exquisite diving try in the corner, 0-10.

The Baa Baas increased the pressure on the Druids and as they attempted to run it out of defence a poor pass was snaffled up by Tom Davies who dived over from a yard out. 0-15.

With time running out the Druids made one last effort to get on the scoreboard and did so with the last move off the game. 5-15. In the end the winner was rugby and an enjoyable afternoon was had by all.
